About The Podcast
War is nearly a constant of human history. All throughout history, as men have taken up arms against each other, women have experienced and taken part in these conflicts too.
While traditional military history has long been dominated by stories of men in immediate combat, women have nevertheless participated. Sometimes, this looked like like picking up arms and joining the fight directly. Other times, they took on support and logistical roles, or were engaged in covert operations. Even women who stayed home contributed to their respective war efforts in their own ways.
Sometimes these women can be hard to find, but nevertheless, they were there and often, their stories defy our expectations of proper women's behavior and surprise us.
This podcast tells their stories.
In each episode we will talk to a historian and:
Introduce you to an individual badass woman in wartime from history, who they were, and what they did.
Explain where the historian found this woman in the historical record and came to know what they know.
Highlight the historian themself and the hard work they are doing to bring these women out of the shadows and silence of the archives.
These women will come from a variety of backgrounds, spanning history and the globe, responding to the violence around them in any number of ways.
Regardless, they were all there, taking part, inspiring us to reexamine women's place in military history, and making us say, "wait, she did what now?!"
